For several years now we have been hosting the international summer art camp. Artists from different European countries stop with us for pleasant one-week workshops. Their works add a touch of nobility to our house.

We also welcome the summer school of the visual under the leadership of the ethnologist Dr. Naško Križnar.

We often accommodate groups participating in various cultural events: choirs, theatrical groups, musicians. Every year we host the meeting of saxophonists with an interesting programme of concerts in the centre of the town.

HNG has provided accommodation for participants of various matches, tournaments, championships in different sports: figure roller-skating, kayaking, athletics, chess, hang-gliding and paragliding, cycling, volleyball, football, swimming etc. Nova Gorica is often chosen by sports teams and national teams for their trainings since the town and its surroundings offer enough sports facilities and grounds. Besides this we have a favourable climate, on average 5 degrees more than in the rest of Slovenia. Snow is a rare guest in the typically mild winters, the summers are very long and warm.

At only an hour's drive away you will find the subterranean attractions of the Karst - the Postojna and the Škocjan caves.

Venice, the eternal city, is also relatively near, only an hour and a half drive on the motorway, so you can organize a one day trip.

A frequently visited point for tourist groups is the entertainment park Gardaland near the Garda Lake (Lago di Garda) before Verona (about 400 km by motorway).

The town of Nova Gorica was founded after the year 1947 as an answer to the new demarcation between the states. On the other side of the border there is the town of Gorizia (Gorica in Slovene). The name is of Slavic origin, meaning a hillock or a small elevation where the first settllement around the Gorizia castle arose. The two towns will blend into one with the entering of Slovenia into the European Union.

The hostel has been offering its services since 1981.
